"point/wave" is a long-form cyclical work by Catherine Lamb for steel-string acoustic guitar and Secondary Rainbow Synthesizer, an electronic instrument developed by Lamb and Bryan Eubanks that filters environmental sounds into lush waves of microtonal sonorities. Performed by guitarist Giacomo Fiore, the slowly-evolving work features justly-tuned guitar and processed atmospheric sounds from Fiore's San Francisco neighborhood. The download includes a detailed PDF booklet with images and notes about the work written by Fiore.
Catherine Lamb is an active composer exploring the interaction of tone, summations of shapes and shadows, phenomenological expansions, the architecture of the liminal (states in between outside/inside), and the long introduction form. She currently resides in Berlin.
Italian-born guitarist and musicologist Giacomo Fiore has premiered more than two dozen new works for justly-tuned, electric, and classical guitars, and released eleven recordings for Cold Blue, Pinna, Spectropol, Paper Garden Records, and his own label. As a scholar his research focuses on US experimental music, intonation, and performance; he has published articles in Music Theory Spectrum, JSAM, and TEMPO, and writes regularly for Classical Guitar and SFCV. He lectures on historical topics at UC Santa Cruz, the San Francisco Conservatory, and the University of San Francisco.
